Happy, Happy Nature Moves In

With construction nearing completion, the carefully choreographed gardens are attracting a variety of birds and beneficial insects who are quickly settling into their new home. With expertly crafted soil and just the right amount of grey water from SMURRF (retained with the help of onsite bioswales), the trees and plants have grown exponentially. Blooms, a key attraction, are getting ready to be enjoyed and photographed year-round. It is really, really, really difficult to imagine that this was an asphalt parking lot just a few short months ago!

Painting with Plants at Tongva

Design team members John Greenlee, Bob Perry, and Matt Grunbaum worked together laying out plants in the garden areas... essentially painting with plants and bloom colors, height and texture. Basically, working plant magic.

Ken Genser Square Design Coming To Life

New bermuda grass was rolled out today and looks vibrant against City Hall's facade. The gently rolling topography of Ken Genser Square can now be seen and understood. And the pollarded Sycamore trees have begun to push out new leaves.

Grounds at Ken Genser Square Quickly Progressing

Work on Ken Genser Square is progressing quickly.  Cast concrete seat walls are in place and most of the path and curb work is completed.  Upside down carpet has been placed on the concrete flatwork to protect its surface.  Today, crews began planting Autumn Moor Grass and Aloe.

Two Overlooks Spring Up Overnight

The largest overlook was carefully installed overnight. The welding was completed by dawn, and the 2 overlooks can now be seen for the first time along Ocean Avenue.
